[Background]
Is that a British Army Browning L9A1 in your pocket, or are you just pleased to see me?
[Personality]
Jim Moriarty is described by Sherlock Holmes as being "the Napoleon of crime." He elaborates further, describing Jim as "the organizer of half that is evil and of nearly all that is undetected in this great city. He is a genius, a philosopher, an abstract thinker. He has a brain of the first order. He sits motionless, like a spider in the center of its web, but that web has a thousand radiations, and he knows well every quiver of each of them."
His interest in the great Sherlock Holmes borders on obsession, having noticed Sherlock at some point during their youth. Obsession is defined as the domination of one's thoughts or feelings by a persistent idea, image, desire, etc. Sherlock Holmes dominated Jim's thoughts, affecting everything he did as a young person and everything he does as the criminal mastermind known as Jim Moriarty. This obsession is apparent when it is realized that Jim saved a pair of trainers belonging to Carl Powers for nearly twenty years to use in his elaborate plan to bait and hook the Consulting Detective. Sherlock solves crime after crime, all of which have been orchestrated by the great Consulting Criminal for him to solve. He learns everything he can about Sherlock, everything he needs to know in order to bring the detective into his web and trap him there.
However, despite his obsession, it is quite clear that Jim has no qualms about killing Sherlock Holmes should the need present itself or if he begins to lose interest. Jim has no regard for the human life, using hostages and killing them as he sees fit. He is a wonderful example of a psychopath, having a pervasive disregard for the lives of others and for the rules of society. A complete lack of remorse and empathy are seen through his actions throughout his career as the consulting criminal, putting his own interests before the welfare and interests of anybody else. When his identity is almost compromised, he sacrifices the lives of an elderly woman and those around her to protect himself. Jim can be described as selfish, callous, cunning, arrogant, destructive, irresponsible, and quite decadent - fitting the description of a psychopath nicely.
Mycroft describes Jim as "the most dangerous criminal mind the world has ever seen." He's an extremely brilliant man with one hell of a poker face, knowing exactly how to play the hand he's been dealt. Once the British government realized what a strong player they were up against, he was abducted and interrogated for weeks but "he wouldn't play along." Instead of going along with their requests, answering their questions concerning what he had and how he obtained it, Jim resisted the torturing thrown his way until his interrogators had no choice but to acquiesce to his demands. In exchange for opening up about his "few tiny lines of computer code," Mycroft agreed to share with him Sherlock's life story. Jim Moriarty wanted Sherlock Holmes destroyed and was willing to undergo weeks of torture in order to obtain the information necessary, the perfect ammunition, to see his plan come to fruition.
When looking at the reasons behind why this man does what he does, there's one clear answer - boredom. He was bored and wanted to play and toying with ordinary people is a fabulous form, in his opinion, of entertainment. He says that he has spent his entire life searching for distractions. Jim's intellect is far above the average population, on the same playing field as that of Sherlock and Mycroft Holmes. As a result, he becomes disinterested, needing something that can hold his attention and challenge his mind. Jim considers human life, his own and others, to be fairly pointless and will go to any means necessary to entertain himself. Sometimes, unfortunately, this means taking the lives of innocent bystanders if they get in his way or fail to cooperate. His value on human life is so low that he took his own life because it would secure the defeat and eventual suicide of Sherlock Holmes.
Not only does Jim fit the description of a textbook psychopath, possess a genius-level intellect, get incredibly bored, and have a rather creepy obsession with Sherlock Holmes, he is quite the actor and liar. He plays the role of Jim from IT, a gay man Molly seems interested in, well enough that even the great Sherlock Holmes is fooled and doesn't even give the man a second thought. He considers this nothing more than a game, "playing Jim from IT, playing gay." Jim is seen playing yet another role, actor Richard Brook, when he enters the apartment of reporter Kitty Riley. This time, however, he has convinced all who read the paper that he is nothing more than an actor, a storyteller who has a DVD, cast by Sherlock to play the role of Jim Moriarty. "Did you almost start to wonder if I was real? Did I nearly get ya?" he asks Sherlock, going on to say that the part he so skillfully portrayed was nothing but a joke.
[Abilities]
Jim is an average human possessing no super-human abilities or powers. He is, however, of above average intelligence.
[Affection]
Only if the role calls for it. Jim does, however, have no respect for personal space. He may be a little too close for comfort more times than not.
[Fighting]
When confronting Sherlock and John by the pool, Jim tells the pair, "Don't be silly, someone else is holding the rifle. I don't like getting my hands dirty." Several assassins are seen throughout the series, whether it be an actual person or just the laser sight from a sniper rifle, with their sights set on John Watson, Sherlock Holmes, Mrs. Hudson, and Greg Lestrade.
[Other important stuff]
Jim Moriarty is the world's only "consulting criminal," referring to himself as a specialist. People across the world contact Jim to design and orchestrate the perfect crime, ranging from something as simple as sponsoring a serial killer to something as complex as sponsoring an international smuggling ring. Other crimes he has been involved in include, but are not limited to, the faked death of Ian Monkford, the supplying of poison for the murder of Connie Prince, art forgery, leaking information about a counter-terrorism plan being developed by the US and UK to terrorist organizations, and even advising The Woman on ways she could easily manipulate both Sherlock and Mycroft Holmes. He rarely, if ever, communicates directly with those who contact him for crimes, preferring to use message boards, email, and text message in order to protect himself. The only thing his clients know about him is his name.

[First Person]
Prompt given to me by Yuli:
Due to unforeseen financial troubles, you find yourself in need of seeking out a roommate. A prospective candidate arrives and insists that the two of you should know one another's worst traits. How would you then describe yourself?
How would I describe myself? [A slight huff] You can't be serious, wanting me to discuss my worst traits... And what if I've none to discuss? You know, perfect human beings do exist. I'm one of them. Just look at me, look at my wardrobe. This ensemble? [Motioning at his clothes] Burberry and McQueen. Even my wardrobe is perfect. And look at the things I've done in this world. I daresay a man with even one bad trait wouldn't be able to set in motion the things I have. Well, no, that's not quite true... I do have one weakness and it has set me back more times than I'd like to admit.
[He pauses, an innocent look on his face]
Sometimes I just can't help myself. Life is more fun that way, you know, pushing things until they can't be pushed any further. I'm all about having fun. Makes life more interesting, less ordinary. I hope you're not humdrum like the lot I've already interviewed. I couldn't tolerate living with somebody who bores me. It gets old, you know, my patience begins to wear thin. There's only so much I can do.
[A sigh]
I really don't see the point to this. Go on, describe yourself, then. Let's see what you have to say, shall we?
[Third Person]
Fingers moving furiously about the keyboard on the Dreamberry, Jim smiled to himself as he walked along the sidewalk heading toward his apartment.
Hey sexy, we haven't had a date in a while. Jim Moriarty x.
This little communication device could do so much and it provided ample entertainment. It was a blessing, really, with its GPS and the dreams. And, oh god, were the dreams a priceless and sometimes hilarious source of information. Shame this little device wasn't available in London... All he had there was an HTC Incredible and it wasn't that great. It was a smart phone, did its job, but it didn't show Sherlock and John's dreams like this thing did.
"Oh, I do hope one of them has a nightmare sometime soon," he laughed to himself, scrolling through the various dreams and texts from the day. "I need a good laugh. A bit boring lately, nothing to do quite yet. Met some fun people, though, and some vampires."
Before entering the apartment building, Jim was stopped by the screams of a woman coming from the next block. An alleyway, perhaps... There was one over there, after all. And he was curious, a bit, seemed better than going back to his apartment as planned. But when he saw what was going on, saw the poor woman being mugged, he instantly washed his hands of anything and everything he'd just witnessed. It wasn't his style, getting involved in another criminal's crime... Especially a petty crime, like that, so lowbrow. Don't want to get my hands dirty, he thought to himself. Pity, though. She seemed like she was in a bit of pain.
